Coaches

Don Weston

​

Coach Don is the Founder and General Manager of KC Spurs Basketball Club and Head coach of the nationally ranked 2019 KC Spurs Black squad. He is also head coach of the 2021 KC Spurs Black team. 15 plus years of experience as an AAU youth basketball coach and former assistant coach to Bob Sundvold (now head coach at UMSL) and Rodney Perry (now assistant coach at Oral Roberts); college athlete at Wichita State University.

Jan Handley

Coach Handley has been apart of the Spurs family since 2010. Head coach of the 2022 KC Spurs Black team; has over 30 years of coaching at the professional, college and high school level. Played college basketball at University of Texas under legendary Coach Abe Lemons; high school scoring champion in Oklahoma as a Senior. Current head coach of Kansas City's ABA team, the KC Soul.

Darryl Johnson

​

Coach Johnson has been coaching for 20 plus years. He coached his own program, the KC Greyhounds from 2005 to 2012; he also coached at Avila University for 3 years and at St. Mary's High School for 2 years. Throughout his career, while coaching and playing sports, Darryl has also been an accomplished High School and College Official for the past 20 years.  Coach Johnson has been a teacher and role model for many youth, as well as his own children, preparing them for their future career in sports and teaching them the values of life.

Joel Webb

-Skill Development Trainer-

Coach Joel is a former College All-American at Bellevue University.  Went on to have a 8 year professional career overseas.  Played in countries such as Mexico, Brazil, Japan, Canada and much more.  Has been one of the areas top skill development trainers and coaches since returning in 2011. Has over 25 years of experience as a player, coach or official.     

Craig Wind​

Coach Wind has 26 years of coaching under his belt having served as a junior college women’s head coach, a high school boys head coach, and as an AAU boys’ basketball coach in Michigan. Craig will assist players that have the ability and desire to play at the college level in finding schools to play for and flourish as student-athletes. He will provide insight and assist our athletes to follow NCAA guidelines and procedures required to be recruited and qualify for athletic scholarships at various levels. Craig has established relationships with college coaches from coast to coast and can easily contact them on behalf of our players. Craig has also hosted his own “recruiting service” called PRIME TIME HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS, from 1990 to 2010 in the state of Michigan. Colleges such as Kansas, Missouri, Duke, North Carolina, UCLA, Indiana, Michigan State, and Arizona and many others  subscribed to his service. Craig also was a Recruiting Service Analyst for RIVALS.com from 2004 to 2008 in Michigan as he covered the state and the country in both football and basketball for the Michigan RIVALS site.
